In 1966, the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane went into service, the final episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show aired, and it was the last year Ford offered the original Mustang Fastback, before the 1967 model year changeover, which featured a slightly revised version. Although the Mustang had a stellar year in sales, the Fastback, which had been wildly popular, experienced a 50-percent decrease in sales over the previous model year. In all, only 35,000 Mustang Fastbacks were produced in 1966, making this model highly sought after by Mustang collectors.

For 1966, the Fastback featured a redesigned grille, new instrument cluster, and newly styled wheels. At the time, Ford touted exterior styling features, of the Fastback, such as a unique roofline with swept back appearance, functional air vents in the roof's rear quarters, and a large rear window integrated into the curvature of the roof's sheet metal. Tinted glass in the rear was standard. On the inside, Ford offered a five-dial instrument cluster with fuel, oil pressure, amps, and engine temperature gauges. In addition to a rear folding seat, the Fastback models included door-operated courtesy lights, a large panel mounted ashtray, and a choice of 5 different all-vinyl trims: black, red, blue, aqua, and parchment. One of the most distinctive features of the 1966 Fastback Mustang is the car's exit vents which work with the vehicles fully-functional silent-flo interior ventilation system.

This 1966 Fastback was built in Ford's San Jose, Northern California plant on the 14th December 1966 as a C-code 289cui V8 with a C4 3-spd automatic transmission and 3.00:1 rear differential. It featured Dark Blue Metallic paint with standard Black interior, and was designated to the Los Angeles, Southern California sales district. The car has spent all it's life in the dry West Coast states of the US.

This is a beautifully presented Fastback which is shown in lovely soft Silver Blue Metallic paint and features many upgrades including Wilwood power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, a cowl hood and an Eleanor-style front bumper moulding.

This is a rust free Californian car and an awesome example of the iconic Mustang 2+2 Fastback pony breed.
