Not many cars can compete with a '70 Cuda for the cool factor. They really had the perfect recipe with great lines, big motors and a badass name!!
This Cuda is dressed in one of the most iconic colors of the day, Plum Crazy. This was a great color in the day, but now done in a base/clear paint the colour is stunning and truly pops. The black vinyl top and strips really make this car stand out.
This Cuda has been the lucky recipient of an 18 year restoration. The previous owner was a professional body man and labored on this one as time would allow. He personally installed new quarters, trunk pan, floors and more. He performed the body work himself to keep filler to a bare minimum. The car is very straight and the paint is nice. It's not perfect but you are hard pressed to find deficiencies. The chrome is all new or restored.
Inside the interior is amazing with new door panels, carpet, headliner, seat upholstery, restored dash pad, new Dakota Digital 'Rally' gauge cluster and more. The seats were overstuffed and are super comfortable. The Dakota Digital dash works great and adds a modern take to the old originals. Probably the most notable thing in the interior is that 'Pistol-Grip' slap-stick shift handle. Easily the most iconic shifter of the era.
Under the bonnet lives a monster. Receipt docs are lacking for specs, but this is reportedly a fresh build of a period correct 440 with less than 200 miles. The 440 fires up with authority and has a beautiful lope to the idle. The note through the long tube headers and 3" exhaust is to die for. This one was built to drive with enough cam to make good power and it doesn't seem to load up. The radiator is huge and uses a factory style fan shroud and aggressive flex fan which keeps the temperature in check. The ignition is provided by MSD with a capacitive discharge box, MSD billet distributor and high power ignition coil.
The 4-speed transmission was reportedly rebuilt with all new bearings. It shifts nicely both up and down the pattern with its pistol-grip slap-stick shifter.
The Dana 60 was a originally 4.10 unit but that gearing can make freeway cruising an issue. Still wanting an exciting gear a 3.73 was chosen putting it comfortably between the 3.50 and the 4.10 offerings of Plymouth back in the day. The Sure-Grip works excellent too.
The original wiring was suspect when new, and 50 years later it wasn't any better. So, a complete new harness was installed. Headlights, turn signals, heater, radiothey all work nicely.
The original gauges were in tough shape with broken needles and corrosion. A brand new unit from Dakota Digital has the good looks of the original with better functionality. Plus, the gauges all work!
Unfortunately the car is missing the fender tag. The previous owner lost that and all the receipts which he claimed totaled in the $US70K range. The factory dash tag is still in place and the VIN on the cowl has been inspected and is a verified match.
This Cuda runs, drives, and sounds exceptional and it has been built to be enjoyed on the road.
